Restaurant Radar for the best in food and fotos

Hsin Wong Restaurant for Peking Duck in Chinatown NYC. Here is the definitive place for Peking Duck, noodles and general stuffing your face on that Chinese food you can only find in Manhattan. A large well lighted place with the ducks hanging in the window (a Restaurant Radar rule for finding good Chinese food is only eat at restaurants with ducks hanging in the window - "no duck no go").
The Peking Duck here is one of the best I have found. Certainly better (and much less expensive) than the "Peking Duck House" on Mott Street to be avoided at all costs...a tourist trap for sure.
On the menu at Hsin Wong the Peking Duck is priced at $25.00 for a whole duck served in 2 courses! First the skin and meat is served on the traditional buns and completed with hoi sin sauce and an assortment of vegetables including slivers of carrot and celery in addition to the usual scallions. And the waiter prepares all of the buns for you. Now here is a secret. If you are only one or 2 people you don't have to order a whole duck! Though it is not listed on the menu we ordered a half Peking Duck. It was $14.00 and we received all the same service and preparation as the full order. I can also recommend the duck soup, noodle and vegetable dishes. The servers are friendly and the place is pretty clean for the typical Chinese place you might encounter in Chinatown NYC. So go and order the duck! But remember, no reservations and no credit cards, cash only!

2nd Ave. Deli gives you the food and attitude you have been missing. From the tray of chicken liver spread on toast you get while waiting for a table along with the lip from the owners, this place will make your day. The matzoball soup, of course, is a must. The sandwiches are top rate. Forget The Stage and The Carnegie...make it to 2nd Avenue Deli.

OK Italian before the theater...Searching for a decent place for lunch or dinner pre-theater can be a problem. Sofia Ristorante Italiano however solves the problem. Don't expect gourmet but do expect decent traditional Italian food, good pasta dishes and reasonable prices but no substitutions!
